FAQ-Computer-Upgrade

Motherboard-install
Question:

What should I do, if there is no image on screen or boot-up, when I am testing motherboard outside

the case ?
Answer:

Reinstall memory, VGA, or even CPU, a few times if uncertain. Check if memory of correct type is

properly inserted in correct sockets and has good metal contacts. Check if VGA card is evenly,

fully inserted in a slot. Check if harddrive, floppy cables are

connected in right directions. Listen to speaker buzz for BIOS trouble code during POST.
Question:

What should I do before installing new motherboard in the case ?
Answer:

Make sure no static on your hands by touching power supply or non-painted metal surface, before

handling electronic parts. Check jumper setting or dip switch on motherboard for the CPU in use.

Install CPU and cooler, if not done. Insert memory in proper

sockets and VGA card in any slot of proper type. Test boot-up of the board outside the case first, if

uncertain about the assembly, to help trouble shooting in subsequent steps. Lay the board on

insulated surface, connect power connector(s) to power supply.
